New network aims to build manufacturing talent
A new initiative is bringing young manufacturing professionals together in West Yorkshire.
West Yorkshire Manufacturing Services (WYMS) has launched a Young Manufacturers Network designed to support and develop early-career talent across the region’s engineering and manufacturing sectors.
The new network will connect young professionals, encourage collaboration between companies and help build a stronger, more resilient manufacturing community.
Aimed at those taking their first steps in operations, engineering, design or management, the network will focus on professional development through learning, mentoring and shared experiences.
It also seeks to inspire pride in modern manufacturing by celebrating achievements and showcasing the breadth of opportunity within the industry.
WYMS says the network arrives at a crucial time for the sector, with rapid advances in automation, digitalisation and sustainability increasing demand for skilled people.
With the national manufacturing skills gap continuing to widen, investing in workforce development is seen as essential to helping businesses keep pace with the industry’s evolving demands.
The Young Manufacturers Network will officially launch on January 29 with a lunchtime event featuring round-table discussions, networking opportunities and live feedback from attendees to help shape future activity.
Freya Taylor, marketing and communications manager at WYMS, says: “The Young Manufacturers Network is about investing in the people who will carry our industry forward.
“By giving them a voice, a network, and the tools to grow and develop in their careers, we are not only supporting their personal development, we are also strengthening the future of the industry itself.”
Registration for the network will also open at the event.
WYMS is encouraging both emerging professionals and company leaders to get involved and support the next generation of manufacturing talent.
