Approval secured on 99-home Coxhoe scheme
A County Durham housing scheme is moving forward following planning approval for a new residential development.
Developer Miller Homes will now begin preparations to deliver 99 new properties on a 4.39-hectare site west of Gladstone Terrace in Coxhoe, offering a mix of two to five-bedroom homes.
The proposals, secured with support from planning consultancy Hedley Planning, include a proportion of affordable housing to help address regional demand.
Joe Ridgeon, director at Hedley Planning Services, who secured approval from Durham County Council planning committee, said: “The Coxhoe scheme is a terrific development, creating a sustainable residential neighbourhood within easy access of local amenities.
“It would undoubtedly contribute positively to this part of County Durham and should be welcomed as a positive step forward in meeting local housing provision.
“There is always a need for affordable housing in the North East.
“The Gladstone Terrace development has been designed to meet the needs of the local community, with a mix of property types and sizes, providing a much-needed leg up for those who might struggle to get onto the property ladder.”
The scheme incorporates dedicated parking for all properties, 24 visitor bays and electric vehicle charge points.
New access roads, footpaths, landscaped areas and public open spaces will also form part of the development.
A park-and-stride facility will be introduced to encourage families to walk to Coxhoe Primary School and access village facilities safely.
Construction is due to begin in spring 2026, with the first homes expected to be ready for residents before the end of the year.
