Contractor hits 'milestone' in retail hub revamp
A building contractor has hailed a “milestone” moment in a retail development.
Esh Construction has razed the former Eston Precinct.
Bosses say the work paves the way to create a 14,600sq ft seven-shop, leisure, event and market space venture that will “enhance Eston as a vibrant and welcoming destination”.
They add earthworks will now be carried out to create foundations for the hub, set between Redcar and Middlesbrough, with steel frame erection planned for next year.
Grant Watson, construction manager at Esh Construction – which is working alongside Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council on the scheme – said: “We’re looking forward to seeing the positive impact this will have in Eston.
“We remain committed to bringing forward initiatives to maximise social and economic benefits throughout.”
Esh Construction is also working alongside Identity Consult, Space and Fairhurst on the scheme.
Councillor Lynn Pallister, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council’s cabinet member for growth and enterprise, added: “This next phase marks an exciting milestone.
"The new precinct will offer high-quality retail opportunities for residents and visitors, creating an inviting place to shop and spend time.
“With demolition now complete, you can expect to see a lot of activity on site in January.”
The project has been funded by the Government and Tees Valley Combined Authority.
