Companies combine to deliver university project
Two building services firms joined forces to deliver an education institution revamp.
Meldrum Group and Howarth Litchfield have refurbished learning space at Northumbria University.
The duo transformed two art studios into 285 and 140-seat lecture theatres within the university’s Squires Annexe.
Dunston-based Meldrum Group oversaw construction work, with Howarth Litchfield, based on the outskirts of Durham City, providing architectural, interior design and principal designer services.
Kevin Turnbull, Meldrum head of design, said: “Having worked with Howarth Litchfield on several projects, we knew they would hit the ground running.
“We’re proud of what’s been achieved and hope this marks the beginning of a long-term relationship with the university.”
Dave Pickersgill, Howarth Litchfield director, added: “We worked closely with Meldrum and the university to get sign-off on the design quickly.
“We’re delighted to have been appointed and hope the end result meets the university’s expectations.”
Tom Moffitt, Northumbria University building surveyor, praised the collaboration between the supply chain partners.
He added: “This has been a true team effort between university colleagues and our contractor and consultant partners.
“From identifying the space to completing the refurbishment, the turnaround has been exceptional and the quality of work is outstanding.”
The project was further supported by Adelphi Consulting Engineers, JHP Engineers and Apex Acoustics.
