Symmetry Park secures major new tenant
A North East business park is set to expand after agreeing terms with a new tenant.
Tritax Big Box Developments (TBBD) has agreed a 20-year pre-let with supply chain specialist Martin Brower UK & Ireland for a 138,250sq ft facility at Symmetry Park, Darlington, marking the company’s first North East base.
The bespoke building, constructed to BREEAM Excellent and net-zero carbon in construction standards, became operational last month and will create 220 local jobs.
Alongside the agreement, TBBD has secured planning consent for the second phase of the 90-acre scheme, unlocking a further 490,000sq ft of logistics space across three new design-and-build facilities.
Simon Dixon, development director at TBBD, said: “Martin Brower UK & Ireland is an excellent addition to our customer portfolio at Symmetry Park, Darlington, joining another international heavyweight on this highly strategic site.
“This exceptional development is ideally situated for the North East and Scotland, providing state-of-the-art logistics space for businesses looking to expand their capabilities and reach across a broad area.”
Parv Sangera, managing director at Hemel Hempstead-headquartered Martin Brower UK & Ireland, added: “This new distribution centre marks a major milestone in our journey to strengthen resiliency and expand capacity across the UK.
“Establishing our first footprint in the northeast not only enhances our network but also creates over 200 new local jobs – reinforcing our commitment to the communities we serve.
“Designed with sustainability at its core, the site reflects our strategy to architect smart, sustainable supply chains that deliver long-term value for our customers, while ensuring we continue to provide the best possible service.”
Symmetry Park is already home to Amazon’s 1.5 million sq ft unit and benefits from direct access to the A66 and onward links to the A19, A1(M) and to Teesport, which is 15 miles to the east.
Joint agents Colliers International, Gent Visick and Carter Jonas are marketing the site, while Martin Brower was advised by JLL.
