CPI bolsters pharma and healthtech team
North East–based innovation organisation CPI has appointed Greig Rooney as managing director for pharma and healthtech, joining its executive leadership team in January 2026.
Greig brings more than 20 years’ experience across pharmaceuticals, vaccines and biopharmaceutical manufacturing, most recently serving as managing director at Valneva Scotland.
His career spans the UK, Europe and the USA, with a track record of leading major strategic programmes and building high-performing teams.
At CPI, he will lead the strategic direction of its pharma and healthtech portfolio, driving collaboration between industry, academia, government and investors to accelerate the scale-up of innovative products and technologies.
His appointment supports CPI’s mission to advance UK health resilience and improve patient outcomes.
Greig is also recognised for his wider sector leadership, including his role as chair of the Scottish Patient Awareness Council, where he has worked to build collaborative innovation communities.
Greig said: “CPI’s mission to turn great ideas into products and processes that change lives really resonates with me.
“Translational innovation is the bridge between science and impact – it delivers economic growth, strengthens national resilience, and ultimately improves lives for patients and communities across the UK.
“I’m genuinely looking forward to working with the exceptionally talented employees across the CPI network in Scotland and the wider UK, as well as our many valued stakeholders and customers.
“By bringing together people and ideas from different disciplines, backgrounds, and industries, we can make remarkable things happen.
“I’m excited to help CPI build on its strong foundations, empower its teams, and create even greater impact for patients and society.”
Frank Millar, chief executive at CPI, added: “We’re delighted to welcome Greig Rooney to CPI.
“His experience leading large-scale organisations, coupled with his passion for people, collaboration, and innovation, makes him a perfect fit for our mission.
“At Valneva, Greig led transformational initiatives – from delivering the world-class Almeida facility to driving excellence in safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
“His strategic mindset and collaborative approach have made a real impact across industry and government alike.
“Greig’s appointment strengthens CPI’s capability in Pharma and HealthTech at a time when digitalisation, advanced manufacturing, and data-driven discovery are transforming the industry and creating new opportunities to scale UK innovation.
“His vision for a more connected innovation ecosystem aligns perfectly with our ambitions across the High Value Manufacturing Catapult.”
