Layer8 aims to shield local businesses
A new Hull-based tech provider is helping local firms strengthen their digital resilience.
Layer8, newly established after more than 30 years operating as the internal IT function of engineering specialist Spencer Group, is now offering its expertise to small and medium-sized businesses across Hull and the Humber.
The company provides a full suite of IT services – from cyber security and system set-up to hardware and software support – giving SMEs access to a skilled team without the cost of building their own in-house function.
Its 11-strong workforce works closely with clients to deliver tailored protection and reduce the risk of business-critical cyberattacks.
The launch comes amid rising threats, with national figures showing more than 40 per cent of UK businesses reporting a breach last year.
Layer8 aims to simplify cyber security through a zero-jargon approach that puts users at the centre of solutions.
Led by managing director Paul Biggin, the firm is already supporting the community by offering free IT health checks to winners of the Hull and East Yorkshire Business Awards.
Paul said: “Spencer Group started life as a small business, so we understand the challenges and complexities of running a startup or scaleup company, with limited resources, including setting up and operating IT infrastructure and employing robust cyber security measures.
“We have deep-rooted expertise which we’re excited to share with other businesses in the region, to help them put in place a technical set-up and cyber security protections and protocols that work in the most efficient and effective way for them.
“With the increasing frequency of cyberattacks, we know that online security is one of the key issues keeping business owners up at night.
“Our team takes a proactive and flexible approach, to keep businesses secure from every angle.
“With experience of working in sensitive and safety critical environments, problem-solving is one of our strengths.
“We’re like a dog with a bone – we don’t let it go until it’s fixed – and we don’t like dealing with the same problem twice, so we make sure it’s solved the first time around.”
