Hexham housing scheme secures go-ahead
A Northumberland housing provider has secured approval to build new affordable homes on Green Belt land.
Castles & Coasts Housing Association will deliver 21 new properties on land north of Red Lion House on Corbridge Road near Hexham.
The scheme, prepared through extensive pre-planning work by Hedley Planning, will offer a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes available through Affordable Rent, Shared Ownership and Rent to Buy.
Each property will include EV charging points, high levels of insulation and roof-mounted solar panels to help reduce long-term running costs for residents.
The plans also include landscaping, tree planting and a new pedestrian link to the north of the site.
Planners say the development is expected to help ease local housing pressures and add “much-needed” choice for residents as demand for affordable homes continues to grow across the North.
Alex Franklin, associate director at Hedley Planning, who has secured approval from Northumberland County Council planning committee, said: “This much needed development will ensure the delivery of affordable housing in a positive way that is appropriate to the site.
“New homes on Green Belt land is always a challenge, so this is a significant achievement.
“Plans have reflected feedback from those in need of affordable housing, and we now look forward to moving to the next phase and the start of onsite work.”
