Builder adds steel to order book with care work
A second-generation construction firm has strengthened its order book with care sector work.
Mansell Building Solutions has been appointed light gauge steel frame contractor on a 124-apartment extra care development in South Shields, South Tyneside.
Bosses say the structure will form the skeleton of a four-storey building that will feature 25 dementia-friendly apartments and shared activity spaces.
Led by Karbon Homes and South Tyneside Council, they add the venture – set for the town’s former Chuter Ede School site – will also include landscaped outdoor areas and a public café.
Mansell Building Solutions, which is based in Chadderton, near Oldham, was appointed by Robertson Construction North East to support the build.
Angela Mansell, managing director, said: “We’re delighted to extend the delivery of our off-site panelised light gauge steel frames across the North of England.
“This is our first scheme with the Robertson North East team, and we hope we can strengthen our relationship with the region and grow across their northern regional teams too.”
Elliot Robertson, Robertson Group chief executive, added: “Extra care provision plays an incredibly important societal role.
“Karbon has developed a model that combines design, flexible care provision and community access, giving residents greater independence while ensuring support is available when required.”
