Food packaging tech firm wraps up Australian deal
A food safety packaging technology firm has wrapped up an industry partnership to expand Down Under.
OSY Group is working with Australian-based Multisteps.
Bosses say the tie-up will see Manchester-headquartered OSY Group’s antimicrobial coating applied to fruit and vegetable packaging in Australia to help retain product freshness.
And they add the initial five-year contract could be bolstered by work in China and the US, with the firms sketching out expansion blueprints for the two powerhouse countries.
The work comes after OSY Group secured similar agreements in the UK, Europe, South Africa and Namibia, and a deal with packaging maker SHARPAK Aylesham to apply bacteria-killing technology to the latter’s soft fruit trays.
Marc Braterman, OSY Group chief executive, said: “This partnership with Multisteps builds on the foundations we have established in the UK and EU markets and the recently-announced agreement in southern Africa.
“It’s a further step in expanding our technology’s application across multiple packaging types and geographies.
“Extending the shelf life of fresh produce delivers measurable benefits across the food supply chain, from producers to supermarkets and all the way to consumers, who are able to buy fresher, higher-quality produce that lasts longer at home.”
Sam Lam, managing director of family-owned Multisteps, which designs and makes packaging for the produce, meat, seafood, bakery and ready-meal sectors, added: “Our partnership will enable us to present the next evolution of the RPET punnet without compromising any of its existing recyclability and performance credentials.”
