Rail engineer on track with £28.5 million station deal
An engineering firm has bolstered its order book with a £28.5 million rail station deal.
Spencer Rail Engineering has been appointed to design and build a Cambridgeshire travel hub.
Bosses say it will create a new station at Waterbeach, on the outskirts of Cambridge, which will replace an existing rail halt that “no longer meets the needs of the community”.
Promising two new platforms, a footbridge and a 280-space car park, they add the new station will “improve access to skills, education and leisure opportunities”.
Building work is earmarked for completion in 2028.
The project has been jointly funded by the Greater Cambridge Partnership and Homes England.
Matt Lee, senior project manager at Hull-headquartered Spencer Rail Engineering, said: “We’re excited to get started on delivering this project, which is the key to unlocking further development and growth in this area.
“This project requires an excellent working relationship between ourselves, the Greater Cambridge Partnership and wider partners, and a strong collaborative approach, which is something we really pride ourselves on in everything we do.”
