Diners' delight as city restaurant week returns
A popular culinary event is back on the menu.
NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week kicked off across the city today (Monday, January 12).
Organisers say more than 100 venues have signed up for the celebration, which offers dishes at discounted prices.
They add eateries including Khai Khai, DOOD, 21, St Vincent, Sachins and Blackfriars are taking part, alongside newcomers such as Hotel Gotham, Davey’s and KISS.
Launched by business improvement organisation NE1 in 2011 in response to restaurateur calls to help boost the quieter post-festive period, Newcastle Restaurant Week sees participating venues offer two and three-course menus at £15, £20 or £25 per person.
Rachel Fenwick, NE1 head of marketing and events, said: “Newcastle Restaurant Week celebrates the industry and gives people from near and far a great excuse to break the post-Christmas spending ban, support the local economy and dine out at some of the city’s finest restaurants for a fraction of the usual price.”
Terry Laybourne, of 21 Hospitality Group, added: “We are always enthusiastic participants of Newcastle NE1 Restaurant Week and, having been involved in launching the initiative back in 2011, we’ve taken part in every event since.
“All six of our city centre restaurants will be involved this January, and we look forward to welcoming our regular customers, together with those who may be visiting us for the first time.”
Newcastle Restaurant Week will run until Sunday, January 18.
