Funding unlocks next Park Hill phase
A ‘landmark’ Sheffield regeneration scheme is set to deliver more homes and jobs after securing significant public sector investment to unlock its next stage of development.
Homes England has agreed a £6.4 million funding deal to support the next phase of housing delivery at Park Hill, working with joint venture partners Urban Splash and Places for People.
Bosses say the funding will enable work to begin on phase four of the long-running redevelopment of the landmark site.
Delivered through the Government’s Brownfield Infrastructure Land Fund, the investment will support infrastructure works required to bring forward 125 new homes, with 20 per cent designated as affordable.
The phase will also include improvements to the public realm, alongside electric vehicle charging points, a car club and secure cycle storage.
Pauline Schaffer, director of infrastructure funding at Homes England, said: “As the Government’s housing and regeneration agency, our Brownfield Infrastructure Land funding supports the delivery of homes on strategically important sites, particularly where viability is a challenge.
“Park Hill is a remarkable example of urban regeneration of this kind, and we’re proud to be supporting Urban Splash and Places for People as they deliver the next chapter of this nationally significant project.
“The revitalisation of Park Hill is not only creating new homes but also shaping a thriving, mixed-use community in the heart of Sheffield.”
The latest funding builds on the transformation already delivered at Park Hill, which has seen the former listed structure repurposed into a mixed-use neighbourhood.
To date, the scheme has created 455 homes, student accommodation for 356 residents, more than 50,000sq ft of workspace and extensive landscaped green space.
Sian Stanhope, development manager at Urban Splash, added: “Park Hill is one of the most ambitious and celebrated regeneration schemes in the UK.
“Over the last ten years, we’ve worked to retain its architectural heritage while breathing new life into this landmark.
“Phase four will continue that journey, introducing high-quality, design-led homes, more green space, and improved amenities for existing and future residents.”
Nilam Buchanan, regional managing director for central and north at Places for People, added: “We are committed to delivering high-quality, affordable homes that enrich lives and create thriving communities.
“This funding enables us to continue our work at Park Hill – a place that has already demonstrated the social, economic and environmental value of thoughtful, collaborative regeneration.
“We look forward to welcoming more customers into this growing neighbourhood.”
