Housing schemes reach construction milestone
A pair of East Yorkshire housing developments aimed at supporting older residents have reached a construction milestone as work continues to ease local demand for specialist accommodation.
The two sheltered housing schemes in Anlaby and Driffield have both topped out within days of each other, marking the completion of their roof structures.
Known as Moat Hill and Deira Court, the projects are being delivered by Yorkshire construction firm Hobson & Porter on behalf of East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
Once complete, the developments will provide a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments designed to help residents live independently for longer.
Homes will feature open-plan layouts, adaptable interiors and access to communal lounges for social activities.
Both schemes will also be equipped with digital telecare technology linked to the council’s Lifeline support service, offering additional reassurance for residents.
Mark Smee, from Hobson & Porter, said: “We’ve made great progress on these projects and reaching the topping out stage on both is a significant moment for everyone involved in delivering these much-needed new homes for local people in Anlaby and Driffield.”
East Riding of Yorkshire Council has committed £25.7 million to demolish and rebuild the two sites, supported by a £7.8 million grant from Homes England.
Delivered through the YORbuild framework, the projects are also providing wider community benefits, including apprenticeships, local jobs and support for schools and charities.
Councillor Michael Lee, East Riding of Yorkshire cabinet member for housing and infrastructure, added: “We are dedicated to improving the supply and quality of our housing stock, including in sheltered housing projects.
“We look forward to welcoming new residents to their homes in due course.”
