BGF appoints chief investment officer
UK and Ireland-based growth capital investor BGF has appointed Ben Barker as chief investment officer, alongside a series of senior promotions across its investment team.
Ben steps into the role with immediate effect, having joined BGF in 2016 and most recently served as head of portfolio.
He will oversee investment activity and portfolio management across the business and joins the BGF board.
Ben brings more than 20 years’ experience in equity funding.
Ben said: “I’m delighted to be stepping into the role of chief investment officer and to be joining the board.
“BGF has a distinctive, patient approach to investing, and I look forward to working closely with our teams to continue supporting entrepreneurs and building value across our portfolio.
“As chief investment officer, my focus will be on ensuring we continue to invest in the UK’s most ambitious growth companies while strengthening the support we provide to management teams at every stage of their growth journey.”
BGF, which was founded in 2011 and has invested more than £4.7 billion in over 650 companies, has also confirmed several senior promotions, including Alistair Brew to regional investment partner for London and the South East, as well as the promotions of Jill Williams, Matt Simcox and Graham Clarke to regional portfolio partners.
Matt Widdall has also been promoted to portfolio partner, with Gemma Hamilton being promoted to origination partner and Leo Casey having taken on an expanded role as head of Ireland.
Andy Gregory, chief executive of BGF, added: “Ben’s appointment as chief investment officer is a reflection of the leadership role he has played in building and strengthening our portfolio approach.
“He brings deep investment experience, strong strategic judgement and a clear focus on value creation.
“Alongside this, the promotions announced today demonstrate the strength and depth of talent across our teams.”
