Esports team crowned national champions
A Teesside education provider is celebrating a national title after a standout performance in a fast-growing competitive digital sector.
Middlesbrough College has been crowned national champions after its Esports team, MC Hammers, secured first place in the British Esports Winter Cup, winning the Apex Legends tournament against nearly 40 teams from across the UK.
The victory highlights the strength of the college’s digital and Esports provision, with the team demonstrating high-level teamwork, tactical awareness and consistency throughout the competition.
Team captain Kye Parker said: “We worked really hard in the group stages to gain a points lead.
“The pressure of the final was quite real, but we worked well together as a team to succeed.”
Fellow team member Dan Visers added: “It was a fun experience overall and playing against other colleges was really exciting.
“We reached the final last year, and we feel that experience helped us be better and more prepared this year.”
Esports success sits alongside a broader digital offer at Middlesbrough College, which delivers industry-focused courses spanning Esports, game development, computing, creative media and digital technologies.
