Refurbishment completed at Consett fire station
A County Durham fire station has been modernised following a major refurbishment designed to improve efficiency, sustainability and staff wellbeing.
Consett Community Fire Station has completed a four-month refurbishment programme, delivered by Darlington-based 186 Property Solutions on behalf of County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS).
The project has transformed the station’s internal layout while significantly reducing energy use and its overall carbon footprint.
Works included new shower facilities, an expanded gym, drying and briefing rooms, and the relocation of lockers into a dedicated space to improve safety and accessibility.
Welfare areas and offices were also remodelled to better support operational needs.
Energy-efficiency upgrades included triple-glazed windows, composite doors, a new heating system, LED lighting, upgraded electrics and additional insulation, alongside new flooring and full internal and external redecoration.
Keith Lazzari, director of corporate resources at CDDFRS, said: “The refurbished station has created a safer, more comfortable and energy-efficient working environment for our brilliant firefighters and service staff.
“The work was completed without compromising our ability to respond to emergencies, which was a key priority throughout.
“We have had great feedback from our crews who are based at the station 24/7 protecting our communities.”
The project follows a previous refurbishment completed by 186 Property Solutions at Middleton-in-Teesdale Fire Station.
Tom Sowerby, contracts manager at 186 Property Solutions, added: “We’re proud to have completed this refurbishment which delivers high-quality improvements that will benefit both staff and the wider community for years to come.
“Careful planning and close collaboration with CDDFRS allowed the station to remain operational throughout.”
