Social housing landlords unveil £8.3 million work
A social landlord quintet has united to deliver £8.3 million upgrades to hundreds of homes.
North Star Housing, Tyne Housing, Livin Housing, Durham Aged Mineworkers’ Homes Association and Keelman Homes are set to revamp nearly 650 properties.
Bosses say work will include cavity wall, loft and ceiling insulation, solar panels, internal heating controls, replacement glazing units, air source heat pumps and low carbon lighting.
They add the upgrades will be carried out over the next three years, with landlord partners investing more than £5.5 million alongside £2.8 million from the Government’s Warm Homes Social Housing Fund.
Consett-based Zenith Mechanical Services has been appointed to install decarbonisation apparatus, with Newcastle-based procurement firm Prosper supporting the consortium.
Under the plans, Durham Aged Mineworkers’ Homes Association has received £1,158,000 (match funded to about £5,158,000) to improve 443 properties, with Livin Housing awarded £357,500 – match funded to about £635,000 – to upgrade 55 homes.
North Star Housing has been awarded £930,000 (match funded to about £1,863,000) to upgrade 86 properties across the region including the Tees Valley, while Tyne Housing has secured £150,000 (match funded to £300,000) to improve 20 properties across Tyneside.
Keelman Homes has been awarded £198,000 (match funded to £396,000) to upgrade 43 properties.
