Funding boost accelerates Newark housing scheme
An East Midlands housing development is moving forward at pace after securing public funding to support the delivery of new homes.
Balderton Rise, near Newark, is being delivered by housing specialist Lovell and has received around £1.7 million from the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) through its Brownfield Housing Fund.
A total of 309 homes will be delivered for Platform Housing Group, including a mix of one to four-bedroom houses and maisonettes.
Of these, 171 will be available for private sale, while 138 will be affordable homes across rent, rent to buy and shared ownership tenures, helping to meet a range of local housing needs.
Sustainability is also central to the scheme, with gas-free affordable homes using air source heat pumps, while open market homes will feature solar panels and electric vehicle charging.
Alongside housing delivery, officials say the funding will support wider community benefits, including job creation, opportunities for the local supply chain and improvements to public open space, such as upgrades to a children’s playground and new tree planting.
Claire Ward, mayor of the East Midlands, said: “With £1.7 million from my Brownfield Housing Fund, this development will deliver more than 300 homes – including 138 affordable homes which simply would not have been possible otherwise.
“These will be modern, sustainable homes featuring air-source heat pumps, solar panels and electric vehicle charging points – alongside green spaces and a children’s play area.
“The scheme will also support more than 100 construction jobs.
“This is about more than bricks and mortar – it’s about building strong communities and making the East Midlands a place everyone can be proud to call home.”
Beth Bundonis, regional managing director at Lovell, added: “As Balderton Rise continues to come to life, the support from EMCCA is vital in helping us to bring forward new communities in Newark, with high-quality homes fit for the future.
“The transformation of the formerly unused site – previously the former Flowserve factory site – is seeing incredible progress so far and is a prime location for those looking to make Balderton their home.
“Our collaboration with EMCCA and the addition of this funding showcases our shared commitment to developing housing in the East Midlands through unlocking the potential of brownfield land.
“We’re proud to be working alongside mayor Claire Ward and her team, as well as Platform Housing Group on this journey.”
