Water firm Alpheus boosts book with mining deal

A water and wastewater treatment firm has secured a £203 million deal.

Alpheus is maintaining the Mining Remediation Authority’s asset network.

Bosses say the eight-year agreement will “continue safeguarding Britain’s watercourses and vital drinking water supplies”.

They add Huntingdon-headquartered Alpheus will ensure “ongoing 24-hour operational support” across 82 mine water treatment schemes, ten subsidence pumping stations and more than 700 data monitoring points.

Chris Deadman, managing director at Alpheus – which last year agreed a ten-year wastewater treatment contract extension with Derby City Council – said: “We are absolutely delighted to be partnering with the Mining Remediation Authority.

“Our approach and focus on optimisation are a great fit with the authority’s ethos.”

Carl Banton, Mining Remediation Authority operations director, added: “Our mine water treatment schemes contribute to the protection of water resources and prevent 3682 tonnes of iron a year from entering Britain’s waterways.

“The capabilities of Alpheus make them an ideal partner to help us make a better future for people and the environment in mining areas.

“I’d also like to thank Severn Trent Services for its work over the last 11 years.”
