Getting to know... Graham Nicholson
We know you as the Managing Director of G FOREX, but who is the person behind the title? Tell us a little about what makes you tick…
I left university, and all I wanted to be was a foreign exchange trader after watching the Stock Market on TV in Newcastle. So, I packed my bags and went to London as a young man, where I spent 20 years in my dream job. I felt very lucky that a guy from the North East could make it down south.
Did you always want to work in your industry?
I have an economics background and absolutely love International Trade, so to live and breathe the Financial Markets was my dream industry to work in, and still is.
What’s the best bit about your job? And the worst?
Helping clients navigate and achieve the best results in their Foreign Exchange requirement brings me the most joy in my job. The worst is, without doubt, the wonderful world of compliance! Always the hardest hurdle to conquer. The Foreign Exchange side of things, I find so easy and natural.
What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?
To own my own Foreign Exchange International payments company G FOREX. I may stand corrected, but I believe I am the only person in the North East to own their very own FX Company. It makes me very proud.
How do you relax outside of work?
Family time, always. We are all big runners, and I love sport, horse racing and football, especially. Although following Newcastle United is always challenging.
What makes the North East such a great place to live and work?
The North East is my home and close to my heart. I find that North East people are so loyal, friendly, engaging, and we all like to keep business local, which is a great thing for our wonderful region.
Tell us something about you we didn’t know…
Well, I have been trying to get my wife to like football for years, but since I took her to a Corporate Box recently, she now loves football. The morale of story... never give up. You can always find a way to succeed!
