Redcar & Cleveland appoints cabinet member
Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council has appointed Councillor Neil Bendelow as cabinet member for Neighbourhoods following a change to its senior leadership team.
Councillor Bendelow was appointed by the leader of the council after the resignation of councillor Adam Brook, who stepped down from the cabinet due to personal reasons.
Councillor Brook will remain in his role as ward member for Grangetown.
In his new position, councillor Bendelow will take responsibility for the Neighbourhoods portfolio, supporting the council’s work across local communities in Redcar and Cleveland.
Councillor Bendelow said: “I am honoured to be serving the people of Redcar and Cleveland in this role, and I can’t wait to get started.
“I know the Neighbourhoods portfolio covers the services residents rely on every single day, from keeping communities clean and safe, to ensuring our bin collections run efficiently.
“I am committed to working closely with residents, councillors, and partners, to ensure we continue delivering high quality services across the borough.”
Councillor Alec Brown, leader of the council, added: “Councillor Adam Brook is one of the hardest working cabinet members I have seen in my 11 years at the council.
“His dedication, professionalism and passion for the Neighbourhoods portfolio not only impressed me, it impressed councillors across the chamber.
“I have today welcomed councillor Neil Bendelow, an extremely experienced councillor, former mayor, and dedicated South Bank ward member, to our cabinet as the new lead for the Neighbourhoods portfolio.
“He will oversee some of the most valued and visible services we deliver as a council, and I wish him the best of luck in his new role.
“I look forward to working with him.”
