YFM enters ‘exciting new chapter’ with buyout
A Leeds-headquartered private equity firm has secured its long-term independence after completing a management-led buyout.
YFM Equity Partners, which also has offices in London, Manchester, Reading and Birmingham, has completed a management buyout, with its existing partners acquiring the equity held by the team that led the firm’s previous buyout in 2013.
The deal has been led by managing partner Jamie Roberts, alongside Eamon Nolan, head of fundraising and investor relations, and chief operating officer Marcus Karia.
Founded more than four decades ago, YFM is one of the UK’s longest-established investors in high-growth entrepreneurial businesses.
Planning for the transaction began six years ago, with Jamie saying it will ensure continuity for the firm, with no change to its day-to-day operations or focus on backing ambitious management teams across the UK.
He said: “This buyout marks an exciting new chapter for YFM.
“Over recent years we have built a strong platform, and we are now in the second year of a five-year plan to significantly grow the business, expanding our regional footprint, increasing the number of entrepreneurs we support, and growing our funds under management.
“We chose to fund the transaction using debt provided by Triple Point to ensure the business remains fully owned by the partners, supporting our ambition to be the UK’s largest independently owned investor in entrepreneurs.”
The buyout follows a strong period for the business, including the recent close of an £85 million VCT fundraising and the launch of fundraising for its latest Buyout Fund.
Several senior figures, including former partners Dave Hall and David Bell, will continue to support YFM and its portfolio in consultancy and advisory roles as the firm enters its next phase of growth.
Dave added: “Having been part of YFM for many years, I am immensely proud of what we have achieved together.
“I look forward to continuing to support the team as they build on the firm’s strong foundations and drive the business forward.”
Legal advice was provided by Mark Metcalfe and Sarah Souter at Broadfield Law for the YFM management team, with Rachel Turner of HCR Law advising the wider partnership and Brad McAvoy and Phil Snell of James Cowper Kreston delivering financial due diligence and tax advice.
Gunnercooke acted for the exiting shareholders, while Simmons & Simmons advised Triple Point.
