Port of Tyne director takes new role
A maritime trade hub has announced a senior leadership change.
The Port of Tyne has confirmed that Dr Jo North will leave the organisation to become chief executive of Harwich Haven Authority, in Essex.
Jo joined the Port of Tyne’s leadership team in 2019 and has played a central role in shaping its long-term direction.
As innovation ecosystem director, she was instrumental in developing the Tyne 2050 strategy and advancing a wide-ranging sustainability agenda, including work on alternative fuels and green shipping corridors.
She also led innovation and digital programmes such as port-wide 5G connectivity, alongside leadership and graduate development initiatives.
Beyond the port, Jo has been a prominent advocate for maritime innovation, helping to establish Venture Connect, the UK’s first National Maritime Innovation Hub, as well as Maritime Innovation Week.
Matt Beeton, chief executive of the Port of Tyne, said: “Jo has made an exceptional contribution to both the region and the maritime industry.
“It is fitting that her next step is to lead one of the UK’s major trust ports and I wish her every success for the future.”
