Berlin route returns for second summer season.jpg

Newcastle–Berlin flights take off again

A popular European city break route has returned to a North East airport for the summer season.

Newcastle International Airport has confirmed the return of direct flights to Berlin following strong passenger demand last year.

Eurowings will operate the route twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays, from May to October, offering more convenient afternoon departure times for short city breaks.

The service provides improved access to one of Europe’s most vibrant capitals, known for its cultural festivals, historic landmarks and lively nightlife.

Summer highlights include major outdoor music events, street festivals and open-air performances across the city.

The route adds further choice for leisure travellers from the region and supports the airport’s continued focus on expanding its short-haul network during peak travel months.

Chris Ion, head of aviation development at Newcastle Airport, said: “Berlin is one of our most popular city-break destinations and following strong bookings last year, it’s fantastic that Eurowings will be operating the route again this summer.

“We’ve worked closely with the airline to deliver an enhanced flight schedule with more convenient afternoon departure times – perfect for passengers looking for three or four-day getaways to the city.

“We look forward to seeing passengers jet off to Berlin this summer and welcome even more visitors from the city to our region.”

Reinald Frankewitz, head of network relations at Eurowings, added: “The return of our Berlin service from Newcastle for a second summer season reflects the strong demand we saw from passengers last year.

“Berlin is a key destination within our European network, and we’re pleased to continue offering travellers easy access to one of Europe’s most exciting capitals while further strengthening our partnership with Newcastle Airport.”
