Adderstone Group to help shape Falklands growth
A North East property and regeneration firm is expanding overseas after establishing a new operation to support infrastructure growth in a remote island community.
Adderstone Group has launched a new subsidiary in the Falkland Islands, extending its footprint more than 7000 miles from its Newcastle headquarters.
Adderstone Construction (Falkland Islands) Ltd, headquartered in Port Stanley, has already begun work on its first project: a £1.5 million refurbishment and recladding of an aircraft hangar for the Falkland Islands Government Air Service (FISAS).
Funded by the Falkland Islands Government, the project will support the long-term operation of the islands’ air taxi service, which plays a central role in daily life by connecting communities across more than 750 islands and supporting passengers, freight, emergency flights and local services.
The work combines expertise from both the Falklands and the North East of England, with structural steel sourced from Sunderland forming part of the build.
Marking the start of a wider investment programme, the hangar refurbishment has already led the Falklands-based business to tender for further projects including offshore worker accommodation, road construction and public facilities such as a school and hospital.
On-the-ground leadership is being provided by directors Martyn Wallbank and Stephen Lumsdon, both of whom bring experience from previously living and working in the Falklands.
They are joined by office manager Natasha Greenland, a fifth-generation Islander.
Martyn said: “We’re on the ground here, part of the community and getting stuck in alongside local people.
“It’s not just about delivering projects – it’s about building relationships and contributing to the islands’ future in a meaningful way.”
Ian Baggett, founder and chief executive of Adderstone Group, added: “The ties between the North East and the Falkland Islands run deep.
“We love the cohesion and resilience that seems to be present in communities that have faced hardship.
“The shared purpose motives us to deliver impactful work.”
