Bake Boss Club rises nationwide
A North East-based baking community is gaining national traction by helping home bakers turn passion projects into sustainable businesses.
Founded in 2025 by Charlotte Dodds from Gateshead and Jo Coulson from Hartlepool, Baking Bosses was created to support hobby bakers and small baking business owners navigate the realities of running a business from home.
The founders officially launched the Bake Boss Club, their paid membership, last July, and have since grown it to more than 80 members in six months.
The membership now supports bakers across the country, from Scotland to Dorset, with members ranging from their twenties to their late sixties.
While the club operates primarily online, it places strong emphasis on connection and peer support.
Earlier this year, members travelled from across the country to attend an in-person gathering in London, strengthening relationships formed through the virtual community.
Baking Bosses was developed in response to growing pressure within the home baking industry, where social media expectations and conflicting advice can leave bakers feeling overwhelmed or undervalued.
Rather than promoting a single model of success, the club focuses on helping members build businesses that work for their individual lives, whether that means flexible working, steady growth or increased confidence in pricing and visibility.
Members say the community has helped reduce isolation and build confidence.
One member, Jaime White, said: “Being in the Bake Boss Club for me has led me to a supportive community of bakers who are supporting with all my questions and issues around starting my business.
“It makes me feel like I’m part of a team and not navigating a scary dark ocean alone.”
Others have seen a direct impact on their confidence and visibility.
Another member, Tsvetelina Yaneva, added: “Bake Boss Club helped me to gain confidence and post everyday content, which helped my page to grow and I’m having more orders now.
“As well it’s helping me to have supporting community where I can speak freely about baking and ask questions if I need something.”
Both founders are self-taught bakers who built their own businesses through years of trial, error and persistence.
Their shared experience shaped the ethos behind Baking Bosses, which prioritises progress over perfection, collaboration over competition and long-term sustainability over burnout.
Charlotte added: “Too many bakers feel like they are behind because they are only seeing the highlight reel.
“We wanted to create something honest, supportive, and practical, where people can grow at their own pace and still build something they are proud of.”
The Bake Boss Club concentrates less on baking techniques and more on the practical realities of running a home-based business, including confidence, pricing, marketing and maintaining balance.
This approach has resonated with bakers looking for honest, experience-led guidance and a supportive environment.
Louise Johnstone, who has been a member since the beginning, added: “One of the most wonderful things about Baking Bosses is the genuine heartfelt support everyone gives to everyone else.
“I have made some wonderful friendships already, we all just want each other to be successful in whatever area we are working towards.”
Alongside its growing membership, Baking Bosses also runs a weekly podcast, Confessions of a Baking Boss, featuring open discussions with bakers at different stages of their journey.
The podcast reinforces the group’s message that success looks different for everyone and does not follow a single timeline.
With a rapidly growing membership, a nationwide reach and a blend of online and offline connection, Baking Bosses is building a supportive movement for bakers seeking success on their own terms.
