Maritime cluster deepens pool with power firm move
A maritime sector growth organisation has deepened its membership pool.
Tees Maritime Cluster has added GeoPura to its portfolio.
Officials say the zero-emission hydrogen power provider’s arrival “reinforces Teesside’s growing reputation as a national leader in clean energy deployment, industrial decarbonisation and sustainability”.
They add it will provide Tees Maritime Cluster partners with greater access to hydrogen expertise, cross-sector collaboration opportunities and potential to de-risk zero-emission power ventures.
Based in the North East, with further sites across Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, GeoPura designs, makes and supplies hydrogen power units for use across a raft of sectors.
Made alongside Siemens Energy, the units use hydrogen to create electricity for industrial, infrastructure, maritime and event environments, removing the need for diesel generators.
Jo Vinton-Bullwinkel, Tees Maritime Cluster operations director, said: “GeoPura joining the cluster is a strong signal of where real momentum in hydrogen and clean power is happening.
“Teesside isn’t just setting ambitions; we’re delivering projects, building capability and creating the conditions for innovation to scale.
“Having a company like GeoPura at the table benefits our members directly, bringing practical expertise, live project insight and new opportunities to collaborate across the maritime and industrial landscape.”
Derek Bulmer, GeoPura chief financial officer, added: “Teesside plays a critical role in the UK’s industrial and maritime economy, and it also has the ingredients to lead on clean power delivery.
“Joining Tees Maritime Cluster allows us to work alongside organisations that want to move from ambition to action.
“We bring real-world experience from deploying hydrogen power at scale, and we look forward to collaborating with members to support practical projects, reduce emissions on site and strengthen the region’s position as a centre for hydrogen and clean energy innovation.”
