Booths reshapes leadership for next growth phase
Family-owned independent grocer Booths, which is headquartered in Preston, has unveiled a new executive leadership structure to support its next phase of growth.
Edwin Booth will continue as chairman, while a newly formed executive team will lead the day-to-day running of the 178-year-old business under chief executive Nigel Murray.
He said: “Booths are proud and skilful retailers in the North of England, and the stores form the core of our brand.
“Looking to the future, we are keen to realise the potential for the Booths brand and the love it evokes across the country.
“I am genuinely excited about this new construct and am obviously proud to see my eldest daughter continue to learn, develop, and progress through the business.”
Emma Booth, sixth-generation family member and the first female Booth to join the business, has been promoted to chief brand officer, overseeing brand, marketing and customer functions, including direct-to-consumer.
Rebecca Hardman becomes chief operating officer after 13 years with the business, expanding her remit to include manufacturing, logistics and retail development.
Meanwhile, Nicola Karran has been promoted to chief commercial officer, taking responsibility for trading, product development and supply, alongside the B2B and wholesale channel.
Finally, Damien McDonald moves into the role of chief financial officer and company secretary and joins the board, adding responsibility for risk and governance.
The changes are designed to support long-term, sustainable growth while protecting Booths’ family-owned heritage.
Nigel Murray, chief executive, said: “The creation of this team is a critical enabler in the delivery of a new broader business strategy.
“We have untapped potential within our brand-reach and also our manufacturing base.
“There are significant opportunities in new markets and with new customers for what we make and develop, be that through other businesses or direct to consumers.
Nigel added, “Knowing them so well, I have huge confidence in this executive team and our unrelenting drive and focus to get things just right for customers, colleagues and communities.
“They are all people I enjoy working with, who have a clear and shared view of our opportunities and ambitions.
“There is a bright future for the business, in Booths Country and beyond, and this team will enable us to deliver positive change with pace and impact.”
