Newcastle to host Festival of The Girl

An empowerment festival is heading to the North East for the first time, bringing hands-on activities designed to inspire confidence in young girls.

Festival of The Girl, which is being delivered in partnership with global marine insurer NorthStandard, is heading to Newcastle this spring, with tickets now on sale for its debut event in the region.

The one-day festival will take place on Saturday, March 21 at the Newcastle University Sports Centre, offering two activity-packed sessions across the day.

Founded in 2019, Festival of The Girl is a not-for-profit movement created for girls aged seven to 11, with families, siblings of any gender and adults all welcome.

The event is designed to challenge gender stereotypes early, spark curiosity and help girls explore future possibilities in a supportive environment.

Visitors can take part in a wide range of hands-on workshops, interactive activities and talks led by organisations from across sectors including science, engineering, law, sport, transport and public services.

Contributors include STEMAZING, South Shields Marine School, Northumbrian Water, Northumbria Police, the RNLI, Newcastle Eagles, Port of Tyne, Arup, Nexus, CGI and Amnesty International, among others.

Accessibility sits at the heart of the festival’s approach, with a pay-what-you-can ticket option and a dedicated SEND-friendly zone to ensure as many families as possible can attend.

Andrea Preston, chief people officer at NorthStandard, said: “We believe every girl deserves to see the limitless possibilities ahead of her and to grow up in an environment that nurtures her confidence and ambition.

“As an organisation rooted in the North East, we are proud to support Festival of The Girl Newcastle and help expose girls to new opportunities and role models close to home.”

Tickets for Festival of The Girl Newcastle are on sale now, with limited availability.
