Getting to know... Jonathan Mount

In the latest instalment of Bdaily’s Getting to know... feature, which looks at the person behind the business profile, Jonathan Mount, co-founder of architecture and design studio Project London – which includes kitchen and fitted furniture joinery and design studio Cor Domi – talks about filling a gap in the market, the joy he takes from revitalising buildings and how he relaxes outside the office…

Did you always want to work in the property and design sector?

Not at all. My background is actually in high-end residential acquisitions.

If you had told me ten years ago that I would be running an architecture and interiors studio, I would have laughed.

The truth is that Project London came about as a direct response to a gap we kept encountering first-hand.

We were struggling to find a studio that could genuinely deliver across architecture, interiors and execution without fragmentation.

There were too many handovers, a lack of accountability and not enough focus on the final outcome.

So we set out to build the studio we wished existed, bringing together the very best talent across architecture, interior design and project delivery, all working collaboratively under one roof.

From the outset, the focus has been on quality, clarity and control, ensuring our clients receive a seamless experience and an exceptional end result.

What’s the best bit about your job? And the worst?

There are a few best bits.

I have always loved property, and London has some of the best homes in the world.

It is a real privilege to help clients bring beautiful buildings back to their former glory, and to modernise them in a way that respects their character.

I also genuinely love our team.

We have incredibly talented people in the business, and I am proud they choose to do their best work with us.

When a project comes together, and you can feel a home come back to life, it is hard to beat.

The worst part is the time it can take to secure permissions to renovate and extend.

It can feel archaic at times, particularly when you are trying to do the right thing and improve a home properly.

What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?

On a personal level, my two girls. They are an absolute joy and make me proud every day.

From a business perspective, it is the team we have built across Project London and Cor Domi.

We have gone from start-up to an established studio of more than 30 people, with robust processes and the ability to deliver genuinely stunning work.

We have also taken the business international with our Dubai launch, which has been a proud moment for the whole team.

I still catch myself thinking, ‘how on earth did we pull this off?’

How do you relax outside of work?

Exercise is a big one for me. I also love watching sports, particularly football and rugby.

I am an Arsenal supporter, and Bath are my rugby team.

I also love snowboarding and, more generally, being in the mountains.

Most importantly, spending time with my family.

My wife and I are also very sociable; we love hosting, so there is rarely a quiet moment in our house.

What makes London such a great place to live and work?

I feel very fortunate to live and work here.

The architecture is stunning and so varied, from Georgian terraces to modern icons, and the city has an energy that is hard to match.

There is always something going on, brilliant restaurants, theatre and galleries, and a constant mix of old and new.

For someone who cares about buildings and craft, it is an endless source of inspiration.

Tell us something about you we didn’t know…

I used to be half decent at rugby, and I was in the Wasps Academy after school.
