hedgehog lab backs 'tech for good'
A Newcastle-based digital consultancy has strengthened its social impact ambitions after achieving B Corp certification and launching a new funding initiative.
hedgehog lab, a global digital product consultancy, has joined the international B Corp community, meeting recognised standards for social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.
Chris Turner, chief executive of B Lab UK, said: “We are delighted to welcome hedgehog lab to the B Corp community.
“This is a movement of companies that are committed to changing how business operates and believe business really can be a force for good.
“We know that hedgehog lab is going to be a fantastic addition to the community and will continue driving the conversation forward.”
Alongside the certification, the company has introduced an enhanced social value framework, including the creation of a Social Value Fund.
A percentage of revenue from client contracts will be dedicated to impact projects, supporting volunteering, pro-bono or discounted work and community-led initiatives.
hedgehog lab is also introducing five paid impact days per employee each year, enabling staff to volunteer or undertake learning focused on equity, inclusion and sustainability.
The framework aligns with the UK Government’s social value missions and builds on partnerships with organisations including If U Care Share, The Hygiene Bank and Groundwork North East & Cumbria.
Malcolm Seagrave, managing director at hedgehog lab, added: “B Corp certification is an important milestone because it formalises something we’ve believed for a long time: building great technology and building a better future should go hand in hand.
“This is about accountability - committing to high standards, measuring what we do, and making sure our growth benefits people, communities, and the planet.”
