Engineer launches apprenticeship drive
A defence manufacturer has launched a recruitment drive to hire 18 apprentices as it advances a multi-billion-pound investment in its manufacturing facilities.
Sheffield Forgemasters is seeking candidates to join its award-winning apprenticeship scheme in 2026, offering roles across machining, CNC programming, metallurgy, foundry, melting, project management, environmental services, materials testing and maintenance.
Jenna Carr, early careers manager at Sheffield Forgemasters, said: “With our recapitalisation programme advancing at pace, we are seeking out the most capable and committed individuals to join our team and take on new skills for the future.
“The company is building state-of-the-art facilities following its MoD acquisition, and we are recruiting in tandem with the programme to create next-level engineering, production, and future management skills-sets.
“Those who succeed in securing an apprenticeship will receive best-in-class training, they will also work towards a professional qualification while earning a salary and will build a future career in one of Europe’s most advanced engineering facilities.
“We are seeking applicants from all backgrounds who have the appetite to learn and the desire to build a future, which will not only provide skills for life, but will offer excellent professional development pathways.
“Our apprenticeships recruitment is usually very popular, so I’d urge those who are interested to seize the opportunity.”
The intake comes as the Ministry of Defence-owned business advances its £1.3 billion investment in a new 13,000 tonne forging line and a 30,000sq metre machining facility, strengthening UK defence manufacturing capability.
Employing 770 people, the company designs and produces high-integrity forgings and castings for global markets including defence, marine, nuclear and renewables.
Applications close on March 9.
