Construction firm nails housing scheme landmark
A builder has hailed a £25 million affordable housing project milestone.
Esh Construction has fitted the final timber frame on a scheme in Bridlington, East Yorkshire.
Bosses say the landmark represents a “significant step forward” for the Pinfold Lane-based 54-home development, which is set to include zero-gas properties for Yorkshire Housing.
Timber frames – supplied by Saint-Gobain UK – have been installed on 26 properties, with 28 further brick-built homes.
The site will also include a 68-apartment extra care base for Housing 21, which officials say will include a restaurant, hair salon and communal lounge.
Simon Woodward, operations director at Esh Construction, which is headquartered in Bowburn, near Durham City, said: “Timber frame construction plays an important role in the fabric‑first approach we are taking across this scheme.
“All homes will be fitted with air source heat pumps as standard, replacing traditional gas boilers and setting a new benchmark for future sustainable developments across the region.
“Other energy-saving measures include solar panels, enhanced insulation and timber frames.”
Sian Webster, executive director of growth and assets at Leeds-based Yorkshire Housing, added: “We’ve seen great progress at Pinfold Lane over the past few months.
“As our first zero-gas site, this milestone is a big step towards delivering affordable, energy-efficient homes for the local community.
“Bridlington has a real need for sustainable and affordable housing; this scheme is helping meet that need in a way that supports people and the environment.”
The development has been backed by Homes England, with £3 million provided through its Continuous Market Engagement Fund.
