Historic fish frying range maker saved in rescue deal

A 160-year-old fish and chip frying equipment maker has been saved from collapse.

Henry Nuttall has been bought by HN Ranges.

The deal – completed for an undisclosed sum – has secured its 11-strong team.

It comes after Henry Nuttall fell into financial difficulties following its owner’s death two years ago.

The business, which runs a factory in Dinnington, near Sheffield, was bought by HN Ranges through the RGM Leeds group that also owns fish-frying range maker Hopkins.

Under the terms of the deal, Rochdale-founded Henry Nuttall and Hopkins will operate as distinct brands.

The package was supported by administrator Azets, with restructuring advisors and licensed insolvency practitioners Richard Oddy and Jonathan Amor overseeing the sale.

Richard said: “Henry Nuttall ran into financial difficulties following the death of the owner, increasing cost pressures and a decline in product demand.

“Following an extensive sale process, a buyer could not be found that was willing to take the company on a solvent basis.

“The team at Hopkins came to the rescue with an acquisition of Henry Nuttall’s business and assets.”

An RGM Leeds spokesperson added: “This is a positive step that strengthens the long-term future of our business.

“Nothing changes for customers; the same people, products, values and commitment to service remain firmly in place.

“We’re excited about what the future holds.”
