Ambassador initiative targets £1 million goal
A regional charity has unveiled a new ambassador network aimed at reconnecting global success stories with the communities that shaped them.
Community Foundation North East has launched North East Roots Ambassadors, an initiative designed to bring together individuals with strong ties to the region and encourage them to give back.
Chaired by Michael Heppell, the programme aims to recruit 100 ambassadors over three years and raise £1 million for the North East Roots Fund.
Early supporters include television presenter and architect George Clarke, with ambassadors encouraged to inspire others, contribute financially and build bridges back to the North East.
The Foundation is also offering match funding to help boost donations and maximise impact.
Michael says the fund will support grassroots organisations tackling inequality and improving access to economic opportunity at every stage of life.
He said: “The idea is simple: if the North East has shaped you, inspired you and helped make you who you are, would you consider giving something back?
“The North East has always punched above its weight, now we want to build stronger bridges between those who have gone on to succeed and the communities that first shaped them.”
Since 1988, Community Foundation North East has distributed more than £185 million in grants across the region, supporting thousands of community projects.
The new initiative forms part of its wider mission to inspire philanthropy and create lasting opportunity across Northumberland, Tyne and Wear and beyond.
John Hollingsworth, chief philanthropy officer at Community Foundation North East, added: “This initiative is about connection and bringing together people who care deeply about the North East.
“Whether you were born, educated, lived or worked in the North East, if you have an interest in the region’s success, please reach out.
“We believe this can become a unique and powerful network; something that reflects our identity, passion and a determination to drive positive impact.
“Through spotlighting inspiring stories, building bridges and investing in communities, North East Roots Ambassadors will help strengthen opportunity in communities across our region.”
