205-home Whitburn scheme submitted
A housebuilder has submitted plans to deliver more than 200 new homes as part of a proposed residential expansion in South Tyneside.
Story Homes has lodged a full planning application with South Tyneside Council for a 205-home scheme on land off Mill Lane, Whitburn.
The development would include a mix of one-bedroom apartments to five-bedroom family homes, with 40 per cent designated as affordable housing in line with local policy.
Proposals feature public open space, a children’s play area and a sustainable drainage system, alongside biodiversity measures integrated across the site.
A Section 106 agreement would secure contributions towards local infrastructure, including education, healthcare and transport.
Amanda Stephenson, head of land for Story Homes North East, said: “Whitburn is a thriving area with strong community spirit, and we’re excited to bring forward these proposals.
“Our goal is to create a development that not only provides a variety of homes for people at all stages of life, but also enhances the local environment, with generous green spaces, an improved play area, and a sustainable drainage strategy.
“We look forward to working closely with South Tyneside Council and the local community as the application progresses.”
