43-home scheme underway in Horsham

A West Sussex housing development is set to deliver dozens of affordable homes as construction begins in a village near Horsham.

Housing association Aster Group, working with housebuilder Stonebond, has started work on a 43-home scheme designed to meet demand in one of the region’s most expensive areas.

Bosses say the scheme will include 23 homes for affordable rent and 20 available through shared ownership.

They add that one to four-bedroom properties will prioritise local residents for affordable rent, allocated through Horsham District Council’s waiting list.

Shared ownership will offer buyers a more accessible route onto the property ladder.

Supported by Homes England funding, the scheme will also feature a play area and open space, with the first homes expected to be completed in spring 2027.

Amanda Williams, chief investment officer for Aster Group, said: “With average private rents in Horsham now exceeding £1500 a month and the average price of houses costing over £430,000, many local families are being priced out of the area they call home.

“These rising costs show why our work is more vital than ever: to ensure that people can live and thrive in the communities they love, without being forced to move away due to affordability.

“Not only are we bringing much needed new affordable homes to the area, but biodiversity net gains are also set to enhance the surrounding environment, creating green spaces for the community to enjoy.”

Matthew Whale, managing director of Stonebond Guildford, added: “Everyone knows that the South East suffers from an acute shortage of affordable homes, so we’re really pleased that sites like this one, delivered with a quality partner like Aster, can go some way in helping to address the area’s affordable housing supply.”
