Adderstone docks ‘milestone’ port deal
A North East civil engineering firm has secured a landmark contract at the UK’s largest container port.
Adderstone Civils, part of Newcastle-based Adderstone Group, has been appointed principal contractor and sole civils provider at the Port of Felixstowe in Suffolk.
Awarded by Hutchison Ports, the three-year contract covers infrastructure development and maintenance across the estate.
Work began at the end of 2025, with a one-acre compound and office established on site to support an initial team of 15, expected to grow as the project progresses.
Jonathan Grant, managing director of Adderstone Civils, said: “This is a key milestone for us.
“Being appointed as the sole civils provider for the UK’s largest and busiest container port is a strong endorsement of our team and the quality of work we deliver.
“Hutchison run the world’s leading network of ports and we’re honoured that they chose us to support their UK operations at such a strategically important site.
“Our focus is on collaborating with the port estates and logistics teams, assisting with the smooth running of the site and building a long-term relationship that will benefit all involved.
The deal builds on Adderstone Civils’ experience with high-profile clients and reinforces its growing national footprint.
Felixstowe handles around 40 per cent of the UK’s container trade and processes approximately 4 million TEU annually.
Jonathan added: “This marks an important step forward for us.
“We’re building a great team and there’s a real sense of momentum within the business.
“With the support and expertise of the wider Adderstone Group, we’re establishing a track record as the go-to civils provider by consistently delivering complex and technically demanding projects.”
Ian Baggett, founder of Adderstone Group, added: “It is both a pressure and a privilege to have been entrusted with building and maintaining the civils infrastructure that underpins approximately 40 per cent of the UK’s container trade.”
