Newcastle Airport soars to European top spot
A North East airport has been named the best in Europe for customer service after passengers ranked it top in its category.
Newcastle International Airport was crowned ‘Best Airport in Europe’ in the five to 15 million passenger category at the 2025 Airport Service Quality Customer Experience Awards.
The accolade, based entirely on passenger feedback, recognised high scores for check-in, security and overall ease of travel through the terminal.
It marks the first time the airport has competed in the larger category, following last year’s win in the two to five million passenger group.
Newcastle Airport was also one of only eight airports worldwide inducted into the Airports Council International World Director General’s Roll of Excellence for 2025.
Nick Jones, chief executive at Newcastle Airport, said: “Newcastle Airport is immensely proud to deliver outstanding services for its passengers, so we are delighted our hard work and commitment has been recognised with these awards.
“The positive customer feedback reflects the fantastic work our teams and business partners do every day to ensure everyone enjoys seamless and efficient journeys.
“These awards come at an incredibly exciting time for the Airport as we are set for the busiest year in our history with six million passengers expected.
“With airlines continuing to invest and expand their services, passengers are benefitting from greater choice and more great‑value fares than ever before.”
The recognition comes as the airport prepares its largest ever flight schedule, adding 19 new routes, alongside a £60 million investment programme including a major terminal extension.
