North East architects join Saudi framework
A North East architecture practice is set to strengthen its Middle East footprint after securing a place on a Saudi Arabian property development and construction framework.
Architects-Group, based at AirView Park in Woolsington, has been appointed to Qiddiya City’s consultants’ framework, positioning the firm to compete for high-profile projects.
Established by Qiddiya Investment Company, the scheme underpins plans to create Saudi Arabia’s future capital of entertainment, sport and arts as part of the country’s Vision 2030 strategy.
Trading in the region as SadlerBrown Architects-Group, the practice’s appointment follows investment in its international operations and the securing of a Ministry of Investment of Saudi Arabia licence, enabling it to operate in the kingdom.
Managing director Tony Harmieson said: “As we expand our designs into Saudi Arabia and beyond, we are motivated by the opportunities opening up in Qiddiya City for urban infrastructure and marquee development projects.
“At the Architects-Group we are excited to use our growing international reach and expertise to work on some of the world’s most ambitious projects.
“Working in Saudi is nothing short of inspirational.
With a growing office in Riyadh’s King Abdullah Financial District, the firm is targeting government and private sector contracts in Qiddiya City and across the Gulf, including Dubai.
The opportunity builds on previous work in the capital, where it designed the King Fahad Library and Al Wurud Metro Stations, and opens the door to involvement in the $40 billion Qiddiya development programme.
Tony added: “The sheer scale and number of potential developments within the Kingdom requires experienced international design consultants with the requisite expertise and experience.
“Local consultants will undoubtedly struggle to cope with the volume of developments over the next five to ten years.”
