Coastal Challenge steps up support for YMCA
A North East charity is inviting residents and businesses to lace up their boots for a 32km coastal trek aimed at raising funds for vulnerable young people and families.
YMCA North Tyneside has launched its Sunrise to Sunset Coastal Challenge, taking place on Saturday, March 28.
The guided walk will begin at Druridge Bay and finish at the organisation’s North Shields base, following the region’s coastline from first light until dusk.
Led by Alexander Adventures, participants will pass beaches, landmarks and seaside towns as they raise money for youth services, safe housing, wellbeing support and community initiatives delivered across the area.
Joe Alexander, founder and lead expedition leader at Alexander Adventures, said: “There is something powerful about walking along the coastline from sunrise to sunset.
“You see the landscape shift, you share the journey with others, and you realise what you are capable of.
“This challenge is not just about adventure, but about purpose.
“People will finish knowing they have experienced something special while supporting a cause that creates a real impact in their own region.”
Open to individuals and groups, the event has been designed to be inclusive and achievable, with lunch, refreshments and a finish line celebration provided.
Each walker is encouraged to raise between £200 and £250 to support the charity’s frontline work.
Those unable to take part can contribute by sponsoring participants.
YMCA North Tyneside hopes the challenge will become a flagship community fundraiser, bringing people together to celebrate the coastline while supporting services that help thousands across the region each year.
Rachel Harrison, fundraising coordinator at YMCA North Tyneside, said: “Every day we see the difference our services make to young people and families who need support, stability and opportunity.
“This challenge is about standing beside them.
“It is about local people backing their community and showing that, together, we can create real change.
“Whether someone walks the full distance or sponsors a participant, everyone is helping us continue the work that changes lives across North Tyneside and beyond.”
Places are limited, and early sign-up is encouraged. See here for further details.
