Teesside Hospice to open new Superstore
A Teesside-based charity is expanding its retail footprint with a large-format store aimed at boosting income and creating new jobs in the region.
Teesside Hospice will open its first Superstore on Portrack Lane this spring, selling second-hand fashion, homeware and white goods to help fund its care services.
The outlet will also feature an upstairs clearance area, with some items priced from £1.
Ten roles are currently being advertised, including management, logistics and retail positions, alongside opportunities for volunteers to support day-to-day operations.
A dedicated donation station will allow supporters to drop off pre-loved items directly at the store.
David Parkinson, retail development manager at Teesside Hospice, said: “We’re so excited to be opening Teesside Hospice’s first ever Superstore and can’t wait to welcome the community to shop, donate and volunteer their time where possible.
“Charity shopping is always on the up, providing people with an ethical and accessible way to get their hands on some true gems in fashion, homeware and more.
“And on top of that, you’re making a huge difference to people across Teesside who use the hospice’s services.”
The launch comes as the hospice reshapes its retail offer across the Tees Valley.
Its Linthorpe Road shop will close in March due to falling sales, with staff transferring to the new Superstore.
Mike Thornicroft, chief executive at Teesside Hospice, added: “I’m really proud of our team for reaching this milestone and can’t wait to see the Superstore thrive.
“Costs are set to rise to over £7 million annually to keep our services running free of charge for the Tees Valley community, and our retail stores provide a vital contribution to these costs.
“The new Superstore will help greatly towards our mission of ensuring everyone on Teesside can have access to the very best end of life care and support for their families and loved ones.
“Thank you to everyone for the support shown so far, and happy shopping!”
