Housing provider in £76 million care scheme boost
Plans have been approved for a £76 million residential development.
Karbon Homes has secured backing to create an extra care scheme and over-55s apartment blocks at Seaham Garden Village, in East Durham.
Bosses say the project will deliver 118 extra care apartments and 93 dwellings for over-55 residents.
They add the properties will complement Karbon’s delivery of 750 affordable homes on the Seaham Garden Village scheme, and join a commercial centre with a shop, a school and a health and wellbeing hub.
Zoey Hawthorne, Karbon Homes’ group director of development, said: “This marks an important milestone in the development of this new community at Seaham, adding housing that meets the needs of local residents either in later life, or who need support to live independently.”
Lead contractor Esh Construction will deliver the homes.
Grant Watson, construction director at the Bowburn-headquartered builder, added: “The scheme responds directly to a growing need for supported housing in the area.
“We’re looking forward to working closely with Karbon to help realise the long-term vision for the garden village.”
Karbon is delivering half of the 1500 homes that will be built on the 78-hectare Seaham Garden Village site, with the remaining 750 overseen by housebuilders Taylor Wimpey and Miller Homes.
Seaham Garden Village is supported by Homes England funding.
