Bershka set to open new Metrocentre store
A Spanish fashion retailer is preparing to launch its first North East outlet at one of the region’s largest shopping centres.
Bershka will open a 16,000sq ft store at Metrocentre in Gateshead, located in the Red Mall, bringing its womenswear, menswear and teen collections to local shoppers.
The arrival marks the third Inditex brand to join the centre in recent years, following Zara and Stradivarius, taking the group’s total footprint at Metrocentre to more than 65,000sq ft.
The complex will become the only destination in the region to house all three brands.
Bosses at the Metrocentre said Bershka’s arrival reinforces its position as a leading retail and leisure hub, with womenswear sales up 9.8 per cent year on year in January and overall category sales rising 7.4 per cent.
The boost also comes ahead of the planned launch of The Crescent, a new 10,000sq ft space for independent brands opening later this year.
Gavin Prior, centre director at Metrocentre, said: “This latest big brand signing is another huge win for our fashion-conscious customers, bringing Bershka’s on-trend collections in womenswear, menswear, and teen clothing, along with footwear and accessories, to the North East.
“It complements an increasingly impressive fashion line-up at Metrocentre, with everything from high street names including Urban Outfitters, Mango, H&M, Flannels, River Island and – opening this summer – Hollister, through to smaller independent brands and boutiques, all under one roof, giving shoppers unparalleled choice and convenience.”
