Pipe maker expands with £10 million Hartlepool deal
A pipe-making firm has expanded with a £10 million deal.
Corinth Pipeworks has swooped for Liberty Steel’s Hartlepool-based pipe operation.
Officials say the “important milestone” will help double capacity and strengthen its position in the global energy sector.
The deal was secured through an asset sale agreement between Corinth Pipeworks UK and administrator BTG Begbies Traynor.
The Hartlepool base is known for supplying pipework to energy firms including Shell, BP, Total and Equinor, with its order book also including work to send more than 100 kilometres of piping to the Teesworks-based Net Zero Teesside Power project.
Ilias Bekiros, general manager of Greece-based Corinth Pipeworks, which operates within the Cenergy Holdings group, said: “The acquisition will enable the company to undertake major projects worldwide.
“The move further strengthens Corinth Pipeworks’ position as a leading manufacturer of pipes for demanding deep offshore applications.”
Jeffrey Kabel, Liberty Steel chief transformation officer, added: “Liberty has done everything possible during challenging times to maintain production for Liberty Pipes Hartlepool and lay the foundation for a successful future business.
“We believe now is the right time for new ownership and are pleased to have secured a major industrial buyer in Corinth that will open future growth opportunities and deliver a long-term sustainable business.
“Liberty Pipes Hartlepool has enormous potential to take advantage of international opportunities across the energy supply chain.”
