York Unlocked festival returns this autumn
A popular architecture festival in York is set to return this autumn, offering residents and visitors free access to a curated selection of the city’s most distinctive buildings and spaces.
York Unlocked will host its two-day Autumn Festival on Saturday, October 2 and Sunday, October 4, marking the fifth year of the volunteer-led event.
Organised by a team of volunteers, the festival celebrates York’s architectural heritage and urban design by opening the doors to buildings that are often closed to the public.
Since launching in 2022, York Unlocked has welcomed thousands of visitors eager to explore the city’s historic and contemporary spaces.
The 2026 event will adopt a more focused and curated approach, designed to enhance the visitor experience while highlighting a carefully selected range of venues across the city.
Alongside the main autumn festival, organisers plan to host a small number of additional tours and activities throughout the year, continuing to showcase York’s built environment.
Matt McCormack-Evans, chair of York Unlocked, said: “York Unlocked has always been about helping people see the city differently.
“This year’s curated programme allows us to continue delivering a really high-quality experience while showcasing some of York’s most interesting spaces in a thoughtful and engaging way.”
Further details about the programme and participating venues will be announced in the coming months.
