A week in the life... Lindsey Kane

Lindsey Kane, co-founder and chief executive of London-based wellness supplement brand JOLT, provides an insight into her typical working week, highlighting how she balances commercial sector demands with life outside the office.

Monday: What gets you motivated for the start of the working week?

Motivation starts with structure.

If I don’t have it, I get distracted very quickly.

I’m someone who gets excited by ideas, but that can easily tip into overwhelm, so I’m very intentional now about what I say yes to.

I burnt out last year by taking on too much, so this year is about stripping things back and focusing only on what genuinely moves me forward.

At the start of the week, I brain-dump everything that’s in my head and work through it with artificial intelligence to create a realistic, prioritised plan.

It’s helped me stop drowning in to-do lists and actually feel progress.

Tuesday: The diary is full of meetings and commitments – how do you balance such responsibilities with productivity?

From the outside, people often assume I balance everything well.

I’m often juggling a lot and having to be very conscious about how I manage my energy.

I no longer believe in the idea of ‘perfect balance' – I don’t think it exists.

Across some weeks, work needs more attention, other weeks family does, and that’s okay – it’s life.

One big shift for me has been learning to listen to my body, including tracking my cycle and understanding that I don’t have the same energy every day of the month.

Being kinder to myself has made me far more productive in the long run.

Wednesday: Halfway there – how do you stay focused and re-energise yourself for the days to come?

Midweek is about focus.

I’m lucky to have a team around me who help rein me in when I get excited about every new idea.

Not everything needs acting on immediately.

Re-energising is also essential because I have a small social battery.

My non-negotiable is a hot bath every day – even five minutes resets my nervous system and clears my head, and it’s where I do my best thinking.

Thursday: The weekend draws closer – how do you remain on top of your to-do list as the end of the week gets nearer?

As the week goes on, I work through my prioritised list, rather than reacting to everything that comes up.

Running a business means curveballs are constant, so I’ve started building intentional space into my days for exercise, reading, walking or doing something creative.

I used to think those things were a luxury, and that one day all my hard work would pay off enough so I could do those things in the middle of the day.

However, I think they’re essential for keeping my brain sharp.

Friday: The last day – how do you approach Fridays, and how do you unwind over the weekend?

Fridays are about closing loops.

I clear emails where possible and look ahead to the following week, so I’m not carrying mental clutter into the weekend.

If my husband’s home, we switch off properly – no phones, just time together.

Weekends are for family, creativity, animals and resetting.

I have learnt the hard way that rest isn’t something you earn; it’s something you need in order to keep going and stop your brain from exploding!
