Hydrogen firm powers on with senior appointment
A zero-emission power firm has strengthened its team with a senior appointment.
GeoPura has welcomed Lord Richard Harrington of Watford as chair.
Bosses say the move will support efforts to “accelerate manufacturing scale-up, fleet deployment and international expansion in the hydrogen power market”.
Known for portable power units made alongside Siemens Energy, Newcastle-based GeoPura supplies green hydrogen to multiple sectors, with its order book last month boosted by a deal to supply 2500 tonnes of hydrogen to support construction of the Kent-to-Essex Lower Thames Crossing scheme.
The firm – whose units have also been used to keep the lights on and the hidden cameras rolling on the BBC’s Winterwatch, Springwatch and Autumnwatch programmes – has further production sites at Croft Farm, near Doncaster, and High Marnham, near Newark, Nottinghamshire.
Hailing the potential impact of former Minister for Business and Industry Lord Harrington on its growth ambitions, Andrew Cunningham, GeoPura founder and chief executive, said: “This is a major milestone.
“Lord Harrington’s experience across business, investment and government brings exceptional depth to our board at a defining moment in our growth.
“I’m excited to welcome him as we scale our production capability and expand further internationally.”
Lord Harrington, who also sits as Make UK chair, added: “GeoPura is building a scalable clean energy business with strong industrial foundations and credible institutional backing.
“By investing in domestic capability and workforce development, the company is strengthening both economic resilience and long-term energy security.
“I look forward to supporting its continued expansion.”
GeoPura’s power modules have also been used by Netflix to help create hit drama Bridgerton; Universal Studios to make Downton Abbey’s big-screen finale; and golf’s DP World Tour to power the production village at Wentworth’s blue-ribbon BMW Championship.
