T12 subsea structure enters fabrication
A subsea structure designed for an offshore energy project in the Norwegian Sea has entered fabrication at a North East manufacturing facility.
T12 Engineering is delivering the gravity-based subsea structure (GBS) for an independent Norwegian oil and gas operator.
The 60-tonne structure, which has a footprint of 59 square metres, will support critical subsea equipment as part of an offshore development in Norwegian waters.
Fabrication is being carried out by a Tees Valley manufacturer, reflecting the company’s commitment to engaging local suppliers as part of the project delivery.
Graham Melroy, director at T12 Engineering, said: “Reaching the fabrication stage is an important milestone for the project and reflects the close collaboration between our engineering team and the regional supply chain.
“The North East has a well-established capability in offshore engineering and fabrication, and working with regional specialists allows us to deliver complex subsea structures to the quality standards required for deployment in demanding environments.”
T12 Engineering, which operates from Teesside, Glasgow and Edinburgh, is delivering the project under an engineering, procurement and construction scope.
The structure was originally designed as a modular system that could be transported by road in standard shipping containers, providing a cost-effective logistics solution and allowing potential reuse or adaptation for other subsea applications.
For this project, however, the unit will be fully assembled before shipment to Norway, ahead of its planned offshore installation later this summer.
During the concept and detailed design stages, the engineering team worked closely with fabrication partners to optimise manufacturability, material efficiency and cost control while maintaining the strength required for subsea deployment.
Once fabrication is complete, the structure will meet the operator’s internal quality and safety requirements alongside DNV and NORSOK standards, supported by a full digital documentation package to ensure traceability across design, fabrication and testing.
